The 5th Annual STERG SolarPACES Symposium will take place from the 13th of July 2017 to the 14th of July 2017. Presentations will cover research related to concentrating solar power (CSP) as well as solar process heat. This will provide an opportunity for researchers in the field of solar thermal power and heat to present their work. Interested students, researchers and [...]
STERG has produced four doctoral graduates in the 2016 academic year. We congratulate our doctoral graduates Dr Lukas Heller, Dr Willem Landman, Dr Matti Lubkoll and STERG founder Dr Paul Gauché.
The Africa New Energy Conference took place at Century City in Cape Town on the 7th - 8th March 2017. Professor Frank Dinter representing Stellenbosch University's Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Studies (CRSES) gave an insightful presentation on Monday about, "The Role and Value of CSP in South Africa's Power System". This presentation can be downloaded here. [...]

Pressurized Air Receiver Development The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering at Stellenbosch University is offering a postdoctoral position in concentrating solar power in the field of pressurized air receiver research. The position is available immediately for a project that is aimed at furthering recent research at the university on recently developed pressurized air receiver systems. Closing [...]
The Department of Energy(DoE) recently released the much-anticipated Integrated Resource Plan 2016 (Draft IRP2016) detailing South Africa's energy generation mix until 2050. Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) generation was not included in the mix which in the worst case translates to "the death of CSP" in South Africa. However, this challenge is also an opportunity to better understand [...]
STERG would like to congratulate Toyisi Craig for being presented with a Highly Recommended Recognition at the 2016 SANEA/SANEDI Energy Awards for the work of his MEng Research. We are proud to have another one of our members to receive this prestigious award. We would also like to congratulate former CRSES researcher, Imke Meyer, for [...]
STERG members are encouraged to take note of Eni Awards for 2017 and consider application.
