The 13th International Sustainability Transitions Conference is co-hosted by Stellenbosch University and is taking place for the first time in Stellenbosch  at STIAS on 25 November 2022.

The invitation is for a limited number of students and is fully funded for the day’s attendance. The theme of the day is Africa’s energy transition, and the event concludes with a cocktail dinner.

The Africa Regional Day will take place after COP 27 which will be hosted by Egypt. Branded as the ‘Africa COP’, this event has particular relevance for the African region in general, and South Africa in particular. African Governments are the target of a sophisticated PR campaign to support massive gas infrastructure investments as an alternative to renewables. South Africa could play a leading role in defining an African energy transition pathway. This was emphasized during COP 26 in Glasgow. The focus of the Africa Regional Day will be a review of Africa’s energy transition dynamics and challenges in light of the outcomes of COP 27.

Students who are interested will need to please email merinj@sun.ac.za
