The Department of Energy(DoE) recently released the much-anticipated Integrated Resource Plan 2016 (Draft IRP2016) detailing South Africa’s energy generation mix until 2050. Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) generation was not included in the mix which in the worst case translates to “the death of CSP” in South Africa. However, this challenge is also an opportunity to better understand CSP technology within the South African context and the value which it offers to the country’s power system. Read the full briefing here by The Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Studies (CRSES) offering a coherent explanation on, “The Role and Value of CSP in the South African Power System”.
