Students and academic staff from the Solar Thermal Energy Research Group (STERG) presented at this year’s Southern African Sustainable Energy Conference (SASEC), held from November 13-15 at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West, South Africa. The group delivered several oral and poster presentations, demonstrating STERG’s research in concentrated solar power to industry leaders and fellow researchers.
SASEC 2024, jointly organised by the DSTI-SANEDI Centre of Competence in Renewable and Sustainable Energy and Stellenbosch University’s Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES), focused on advancing sustainable energy technologies, specifically within the South African context.
Several exciting technologies and concepts were showcased at the conference, with a notable emphasis on just energy transition and decarbonisation strategies, green hydrogen production, and the utilisation of bioenergy and waste energy resources.
In addition to the formal presentations, the conference hosted several social events, such as a cocktail evening and gala dinner, providing the students and staff with an excellent platform for networking and fostering future collaboration opportunities within the sustainable energy community.
